In July, we started researching together with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences in the DataBikeSim project to identify and elaborate differences in driving behaviour between bicycle simulation and real traffic interaction. The DataBikeSim project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) and will run until December 2024.
Up to now, there has been no well-founded evaluation of test person interaction on bike simulators to be able to draw concrete conclusions about the realistic usability of bike simulations. Therefore, a holistic analysis and comparison of the traffic behaviour in different test scenarios (reality as well as in the laboratory) with the help of different sensor data is required. The findings will be used to develop a catalogue of requirements or a guideline for cycling simulations, which can be used as a basis for reliable and comparable study results and developments.
First, the interaction properties for the assessment of traffic behaviour are recorded and the required sensor technology is integrated. Furthermore, the behaviour on identical test routes is analyzed in reality and in simulation, whereby sensor data is collected, synchronized and compared. Finally, the findings are summarized in a catalogue of requirements.
Our task in the project is mainly to set up the data acquisition software on the basis of our Blickshift Recorder tool and designing the user experiments. For data analysis, we will use Blickshift Analytics in the project.
